24 Comments on Addiction beyond ActiveRain - Is It Real
You ask a very serious question...I checked out the article and I found that three out of the ten signs of addiction apply to me. I can live with that. I do agree it has become a huge problem and I'm sure will get even worse.
I already know i am addicted....and it has become worse this past month recovering from surgery! I wasn't able to go out much and having a husband who sleeps days and works nights....I got a lot done on the computer but can not believe how much time I could waste on teh other hand! yikes!!!!
Gerry, Well thought out and presented! We entered Pat's contest too, but it's a fine line between TOO much connectivity and being productive. We've clicked the Suggest.
Gerry...great presentation--so glad that I could connect today. Having addictions & knowing about them is enlightening; whether we do anything about it becomes the question. Love the "... have to pull the car over
to do that." statement. Good one, As always. Keep warm or at least miss this snow.
Have a good week.

Very interesting food for thought. One the one part, the technology is not going away so we all need to adapt, as those of us on AR seem to be doing. On the other hand, there is a fine line as BLiz pointed out above. Even when on vacation, I've got to check the Blackberry once in a while! So, I am definitely an addict! The best true "vacation" I had was when we went on a cruise last year; the phones were turned off & nothing was checked until we docked. It was forced as the fees for the cell phone out in "international waters" were very high so it was not worth it to stay connected. And, the world did not fall apart while I was gone!! :)
Unfortunately I think this "addiction" is not going away. It will become the norm. What did people do before phones. Once those arrived they never went back to writing letters instead of calling. T.V. as we know it will also go the way of the dinosaur. Don't look at it as an addiction, look at it as progress.
I am addicted too but have been so busy with business lately (good right?) that my blogging has fallen off a bit.
YOU HAVE 4 LARGE SCREENS THAT YOU SIT IN FRONT OF? Yup, you need an intervention my friend.
I think I have to agree with Dell, it maybe time to get ramped up, rather than turning off. We are here to make money, market ourselves, make money. If we don't do that then we can't afford to do all the other stuff we do. Social Media has become our job, we get clients through social media without clients, we can't sell homes.

Gerry, 4 large screens is a BIG sign of addiction. No need for others. =D Yet again, good work my friend.
Having recently visited Denver's lovely aquarium and noticing how many parents walked around with video recording instruments of various types in front of their faces, I wondered how many kids would have difficulty picking their parents out of a crowd, if they didn't have an electronic toy in front of it. Kinda sad.
I admit that if I don't have access to the Internet, my phone and computer....I feel something is going on that I don't know about. I even find myself apologizing to clients when I read an email I can't act on right away.
Gerry I do not think you have an addiction. Sounds like you see what AR offers is part of what you do to stay engaged and successful. I choose to read AR for thirty minutes a day in the am and before going to bed at night. It has a way of taking my mind off of distractions and focuses me.
Gerry - Well here I am at 11:20. Was supposed to be turning the computer off a while ago, but keep reading just one more post.
Gerry, I'm guilty of forever checking my cell phone for new messages - email, texts, facebook. It's become pretty much a bad habbit. And when I'm home, I'm also addicted to AR! Great post!
Hi Gerry,
thanks for sharing...great post...opened Elizabeth Bernsteine's article...awesome...I also enrolled to further studies...Diploma in Counselling...to compliment my real estate field practice...I believe it's a matter of DNA balance...Take care.
Gerry: We all have spread out & have adapted accordingly to stay in business. That's how real estate is done now but I do see your concerns. I have also had similar concerns over time spent. People always saying 'is it worth it'? Well, when I get a transaction from it yes. I do want to be sure that I don't forget how to connect with real living people though.
Instead of spending 4 hours at an open house I think a lot of us are spending that four hours marketing on the Internet.
I'm more of a multi tasker now while watching TV(time formerly wasted as a spectator)now !!!
