Black Rock NRZ Urges Letter Writing on Black Rock Train Station Name

The Town of Fairfield sponsored a survey  to determine the name of the new train station.  The results of the survey are in and can be summarized as follows:  More than 1,200 people participated in the three-week survey sponsored by First Selectman Kenneth Flatto's office.  Black Rock, or some variation, was the favorite of about 75 percent of the votes.

The ultimate decision for the name of the station -- scheduled to open by fall of 2011 - will be made by the state Department of Transportation Therefore, we think we need to start a letter writing campaign to Mr. Flatto and the acting DOT commissioner, Jeffrey Parker, if we really want to make this happen we urge you to write to the DOT and Mr. Flatto endorsing the results of the survey.

The addresses are:

FirstSelectmanFFld@town.fairfield.ct.us

Jeffrey Parker, Acting Commissioner Connecticut Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 317546, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut 06111

Note that the address for Mr. Flatto is an e-mail address and that for Mr. Marie is a postal address You may write your own letters, but to make it easier for you we have some suggested forms of the letters below.  You may send them as they are or customize them to add your ideas Ken Flatto First Selectman Town of Fairfield.

Dear Mr. Flatto,

I agree with your statement that the new Fairfield Train Station should have name "Black Rock/Fairfield" Station, or some variation in order to represent the entire area.  This would become a wonderful acknowledgement of the commonality of interests and the importance of sharing economic development goals to greatly benefit both the community of Fairfield and its neighbors in Bridgeport In addition, there could be a potential for confusion to commuters if there are 2 stations with the name "Fairfield".

I commend you on taking the initiative to conduct the survey and urge you to continue to support the inclusion of Black Rock in the name.  This would be good for Fairfield and Bridgeport and their two adjacent business districts; Fairfield's rapidly growing downtown area and the Black Rock Village District would support each other

Sincerely yours

Send this to the e-mail address:  FirstSelectmanFFld@town.fairfield.ct.us

RE: Naming the new Fairfield Train Station

Dear Acting Commissioner Jeffery Parker,

I urge you to name the new Fairfield Train Station with "Black Rock" included in the name.  As you know the result of the survey you recently conducted with 1200 responses overwhelming advocated that the train station reflect its association with Black Rock I'm sure you are aware of the reasons people want Black Rock included in the name of the station.  In addition to the economic benefits thought there is the potential for confusion to passengers if there are 2 stations with the name "Fairfield" Thank you for your diligence and effort to determine what the communities wanted in the name for this project

Sincerely yours;

{Send this via the US postal service to the address listed above}

Thank you,

Black Rock NRZ

Gail, Since there are two stations with the Fairfield name, already, it only makes sense to name one Black Rock, to distinguish the two.  Hope that the powers that be, realize that!  Best of luck with then name change.
