Would you ever ask the movie theater to pause the movie you are watching????

MovieI giggle when I think of this.  Imagine you get to the movie theater, and find a place to park...  Not to mention the person that stole your parking spot as you were about to pull in...

So you get to the movies, you are going to see True Grit, since it was sooooo good.  You pay the $10 bucks for the ticket; get your popcorn with massive amounts of butter and a large Diet Coke.  Kind of an oxymoron...  Thinking that the Diet Coke will cancel out the calories of the popcorn.... Oh yea, you also got Red Vines, or at least I would have...

So you sit in the movie and start watching it.  You are there, in the moment, watching Jeff Bridges growl, and drink, and spit and ride his horse...  You get distracted with something, and grab the official movie controller and press pause...

Now you know that this would never happen.  You don't have a magical way to pause the movie you are watching at the movie theater.  Now I know some of you are thinking that is the reason you have Netflix or DVD's, but that is not the point I am trying to make.  I am only talking about the actual movie theater...

So now think of your lead generation activities that you do on a daily basis...  Do you press pause on that?  Do you stop doing it, so you can do something else?  Like get water and shoot the breeze with your coworkers?  Do you stop to respond to some email?  Do you stop to just plain stop?

So why is going to a movie is different?  You wouldn't dare pause that...

So when thinking of your daily lead generation, time block it and make it a point to not pause it, and follow through with it till the time allotted is completed.  Stay on track...  When you start to do this, you will really appreciate the outcome of your efforts.

OK - so how many people paused here to go make some popcorn? Or to run out to the store for Red Vines?

And why are you still drinking diet coke? Don't you know that artificial sweetener is really BAD for you?

Love your story - and the reminder. It is way too easy to hit pause on necessary work, especially for me because I work at home. If the dogs say they need to go out "right now," I'm not about to say "Oh, no you can wait an hour while I finish this."

Great advice. And if you have a scheduling conflict, do not CANCEL your lead gen time, just MOVE it to a different time. We have a "Do Not Disturb" sign we hang on our (locked) door during lead generation. No interuptions allowed.

Chris, you have set the wheels in motion for some of the best advice!  Dennis & Terri, that is a great saying, very true. Marte I too work from home a lot and have 2 dogs that have no clue I'm working on anything.  Stacey, so true about our clients won't pause for us.  Gosh, I love all the comments and suggestions.  I wish we could form a group of some sort that we just check in re: our prospecting and share tips about what's working good.

Sometimes I feel like (but never have) relieving myself in the now empty drink cup.  Not sure how that would work on lead generation.  :)

Good point Chris!  By the way, you don't want a large soda anymore - the small is practically a liter size, can't imagine what the large looks like!  But the red vines are a must!!!!
