GETTING A NEW ROOF OR "WHAT IS THAT NOISE" - PART TWO

When I arrived home late yeaterday afternoon, I wasn't quite certain what to expect.  If you read my first blog about having my roof replaced, you'd understand my uncertainty.  The catastrophic hail storm we experienced last October had damaged my roof, and about 500,000 others!

As I turned into the cul-de-sac around 5:00 p.m., guess what greeted my eyes.  Yes, they were still working.  It was sort of like ants crawling around on fresh meal of a dead insect.  They seemed to be everywhere devouring the roof.  And then I had to find a place to park.Like Ants on a Bug

The crew had laid out tarps to collect the small scraps of debris which is created when old asphalt shingles are broken, pulled up and moved across the old roof materials.  First, it's the shingles.  Then it's the drip edging, then the felt and finally the staples and nails.  I won't soon forget the unusual sound of a wheel barrow full of debris rolling across the roof either.  Oh, and simply walking with 'heavy feet' across the roof can be.....interesting.  This all continued until sunset, which was about 6:00 p.m.

Ants on the RoofSuddenly, it was quiet.  Even Bisbee our cat came out from hiding all day.  He was most happy to be out and about after spending the day in his favorite hiding place, under the bed in the master bedroom.  I can't wait until this start again this monring.  And what are the neighbors thinking?  The cul-de-sac was full of vehicles yesterday.  So far they haven't said anything, but I'm waiting.

Oh, and by the way, I have a couple of questions for the supervisor and construction manager.  It seems that some things were re-installed and some were not.  Oh the joy and quiet of GETTING A NEW ROOF.

Ken -- You're right about that 'heavy foot' sound.  It's very weird.  Getting a new roof is quite a production!  How about the non-stop nail guns??
