This is typically the time of year that people check on their providers: home owners insurance, auto insurance, health insurance....I wanted to remind you to check on your cable, cell phone, phone, Internet providers as well.

I just checked in with my cell phone provider today, T-Mobile, about some issues I was experiencing with text messaging. While I have not yet resolved the issue, I was able to REDUCE my cell phone bill by about $20-$25 per month.

I thought I was doing pretty good, as I had reduced my bill the last time I called them, but was stunned to find out when I spoke with them yesterday it was July 2009 when I last called them with an issue or question and they were able to look at my account.

Now, I know some of you are going to wonder why they can't just lower our bill, since they seem to be able to increase our rates/bills simply by sending us notice, and I wonder that too. Until they can, however, an annual or bi-annual check up seems to be the best way to go.

Good point Carol.  I just changed cell phone providers, one month before my contract expired. I was told that after 12 months on a 2 year contract, if I cancelled is was $5 a month for the unexpired months.  I got a bill for $60, called and had it reduced to $5 + tax!  So you DO have to ask!

Good morning Carol;  Thanks for the reminder.  May I add, TAXES.  The IRS doesn't forget about us, let's not forget about them.  Cold winter days, a slow down in business,  it's a good time to check on these things.

That is excellent advice, I went in to the cell store to buy a smart phone for my husband as he really need one for business.  In overview of my plan I was able to knock off $60 per month with some adjustments .. that was huge!

Carol, You are so right, as usual. There are a couple of ways to have more money. First is make more, second is spend less so when you are working on your own bottom line remeber both sides of this equation. Thanks for reminding us.  Any way to pay less to the phone company is a joy to me.

Also contact any bank card accounts on which you pay interest.  They aren't in an extremely compliant mood this year, but it still doesn't hurt to ask for a rate adjustment.
