A Nice Place To Live

As you enter the city of Darien you will find the signs for Darien with the motto " A nice place to live".  This is one motto that is true to form.  My wife and I have been living in Darien since 1997 and when we sold our home in 2003 we remained in Darien.

Darien is approximately 25 miles southwest of Downtown Chicago and is adjacent to I-55 which runs directly into the city.  At the corner of 75th and Lemont Rd, where Downers Grove, Woodridge and Darien's borders meet, you can buy almost anything you need.  My wife often refers to it as the four corners of the world because if you can't buy it there then you don't need it.

Depending on what part of town you live in will determine which one of the excellent schools your children will attend   We have Hinsdale South to the east and Downers Grove South to the west and four elementary school districts that are top notch.

One of the events we enjoy is the Christmas House Decoration contest at Christmas.  A committe is made up of past winners that accept nominations for the best homes and award those home owners at the City Hall Meeting which is broadcast over the local cable station.

There is an icerink in town that also has an indoor soccer facility.  The facillity is run by the Darien Park District which has parks and pavillions spread throughout the city.  Every wednesday night in the summer they host an outdoor concert series with diferent types of music genres.

The summer ends with the closing of Clarendon Hills Rd between 71st and Plainfield Rds to make room for Darienfest. Three days of food, games, rides and great entertainment make for a nice ending, to a nice summer, in a nice palce to live.
