Email Contest - Quick Checklist for Optimizing Your BlogBlog

Email inquiry on how to optimize a blog:
ActiveRain is a great platform for instant Google Juice and caching. Setting up your blog for this is really easy if you know the tricks. Here is a quick check list. This is pretty basic but the more you work with it, the more you blog, the better and more authority your blog AND website will be.

1. Set up your signature correctly. In the Settings area of your ActiveRain profile make sure your signature has your best keywords hyperlinked to your website. If you are unsure of the best keywords to use, check with Adwords.google.com and type in a variety of options and let the program find the best ones for your business and area.
Don't just have your website listed there or your name. The majority are not searching for that. E.I. "Bothell WA Homes" is a great one... It's hyperlinked to your site.

2. Make sure your links on the right side of your blog page are your keywords. Link them to your site as well. Every time Google finds your keyword attached to your site it's basically a "vote" for your site.

3. Title each blog you personally write with keyword inclusion. "Buying a Fixer in Woodinville Washington"
This is a great title - Its keyword rich and should come up if you Google it but you may need more keywords IN the blog itself. (The post did come up as #2 for ActiveRAin but didn't take me straight to the post.)

4. Keep your tags the same. If you write mainly about the Kirkland or Bothell area, pick some keyword rich tags and post to the same ones each time you blog. Kirkland WA homes, Bothell homes, Bothell homes for sale, etc.. and remember, upper and lower case matters. Pick the few you want to use and use them as much as you can in the post and in the tag section. (Tags are not keywords)

5. BOLD the keywords and linked words in your blogs. This makes Google sit up and notice, oh, this must be an important word or phrase to this blog.man blogging

6. Write for your readers. All this being said, you are still writing for actual human beings that you want to read the post. Either for consumers to find you or other agents and related parties. Write content for people, optimize it for search engines.

I hope this helps. Let me know how I can help you further.
Have a great day.... I think you just gave me content for my next blog!

Great tips Tammy. When you say upper & lower case matters, do you mean in the body of the post or in the tags that you add in when you are submitting the post?

For example, mine is usually Canton MA Buyer Agent & I would use the upper & lower case just for grammatical purposes.  But when I enter the tags in the box when I am submitting the post, I quite often say canton ma buyer agent as when people search in Google they generally don't use upper case.  So, now I'm not sure which to do! LOL!

Cinnamon - Keep blogging with the same tags and same linked keywords and it will pay off :) Thanks!

Connie - Always nice to see you! Glad this was helpful!

Christine - Yes, you got it right! Whatever you use in tags consistently use it. You notice it fills in for you or offers suggestions you have used before. Use those. The majority of searches don't use caps so you have it down right. And yes, in the blog, cap what needs to be capped. Thanks! :)

Tammy... I certainly needed some help in this category for sure.  Thank you.  I see people tag their blogs with "City CA homes" even though their blog has nothing to do with that.  Does google like that one?  I just thought that it would be irrelevant.

Tammy, when I started blogging I had heard of SEO and Google juice but wasn't sure how to apply them. I just started writing to write. After reading your post, I can see that I need to go back to the drawing board and check what I have done and redo some things.  BOOKMARKED and suggested.

As always, another great post full of education from "Tammy the teacher"...

Christina - Well, tag the blog for a couple of things it's about but if you deal in that city and it's in your signature and all over your blog in general it should be in there as well.

Craig - Ha, thanks Craig! appreciate the support. It can be daunting to think of all these things but once you get them down, it will become second nature.

Tara - Thanks again for the re-blog! Appreciate your input and comments :)

Betty and John - Yeah! Been seeing you all around... so glad you stopped by! :) May I'll run into you at Walmart! LOL

You mentioned the importance of links in your signature and links in your sidebar, but how about links in your profile? Those are the most powerful ones, aren't they? I don't pretend to be an expert, but when I analyze my backlinks that's what I see-the profile links are PR3 and the sidebar links are PR2 and the sinature links are PR0, according to the tool I use anyway. In your experience is this accurate?

Hi Rich! Yes! I would say so. the PR though really depends on the person and the work they have done. If there is no posts with barely no profile then the links would be about the same. But if your profile has a PR3 thats excellent. And YES they do count as well... Thank you for pointing that out! :) Have a great week Rich!
