It's good to be taken advantage of! It's good to share! It's good to be loving! It's good to be a good friend!

Earlier today the blog of one of our Active Rainers inspired in me the reality that over the years I have changed many attitudes and certainly the world of technology has changed around me which forces us to change some of our "protective" attitudes.

We live in the information age, when we put ourselves out there as experts we can expect people to tap our brains and they don't always say thank you, nor do they appreciate your "free" advice as having been a benefit to them but I'm afraid that some of them just like to get away with getting info from you and using it for themselves!

But, that is a compliment. When someone regards you highly enough as someone who knows the answers than you have accomplished something very good indeed. Also, if they took your info and ran with it for FSBO sales or passing it on to their Sister-in-Law who is licensed but really doesn't know too much, then just consider it service to those less privileged than yourself. Because if you have the gift of knowledge than you are in fact very privileged.

Real Estate is very different than it was 26 years ago or 15 years ago or even 5 years ago. But, dear friends, it is better than ever. Not the sales we are making for the economy has put a dent in that, but in the professionalism that we have to share, just as we do here on Active Rain.

Thanks for the opportunity to be taken advantage of.

Kate, This is excellent advise for lfe in general but also very applicable for our business. I do alot of "pro bono" work that many times comes back unexpectantly as real estate transactions. It's amazing how the universe works.
