The Most Important Real Estate is the Space Between Your Ears
Since December 23rd, I have managed to get all of my annual/semi-annual doctor appointments out of the way. Yes, despite running myself ragged my vital systems are in good shape, but that's not the point of this post. What's been happening every time I go to one of these visits is at least two opportunities per doctor visit (nurse first and doctor later) is a chance to experience the "poor you" attitude they have when they find out I'm a Realtor® this time of year. The responses are ones I'm sure we're all familiar with:
Oh, I bet you have a lot of free time during the holidays.
Wow (said with the tone of "sorry to hear that") things must be rough for you right now.
How have you been surviving? (this was literally what one of them said)
Today, I set a dental hygenist straight with my answer to her. I informed her that I haven't been busier than I am right now. When she was shocked, I said, "If you are convinced that December and January will be slow, you may miss opportunities to help potential buyers and seller because you will assume they don't need you. I know I'm going to busy and because of my mindset, I don't miss any opportunities. I don't turn my brain off during the holidays or during the winter months."
We all have to remember that the most important real estate is the real estate between our ears. What we think will happen determines to a very large extent how we perceive the opportunities before us. Where I see opportunity, someone else with a negative view of business this time of year may see someone who will be a waste of time. After all, the negative mindset has already convinced you that no one shops for homes or needs to sell homes this time of year.
So get your head screwed on straight, as my dear Mom would say and look forward to every day and every month of the year. It all holds opportunity. Attitude is everything, so start with a good one.
