Second Annual Key West Hammer Fest!

By
Real Estate Agent with Island Group Realty

Few instruments are as haunting and easy to play as the mountain and hammer dulcimers. If you think this music is only played in Appalachia, think again! Key West is again Host City for the second consecutive year, from January 27th - 30th, 2011!

There will be concerts and teaching workshops, from beginner (like me) to more advanced students. And of course, if you are more interested in enjoying the music and love to watch the musicians with their instruments, you are welcome too!

My favorite are the impromptu jams – sheer magic! Rob Brereton (mountain dulcimer), Guy George (hammered dulcimer, steel drum and pennywhistle), Steve Eulberg (hammered dulcimer and mountain dulcimer), Bruce Ford (mountain dulcimer), Butch Ross (mountain dulcimer), Gary Sager (mountain dulcimer), and Bing Futch are at the top of their game. They will be helping us learn more and appreciate the mountain dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, steel drum, pennywhistle and Native American flute. And who knows? There may be something special going on this year!

No black tie events here – just laid back music at its best! Two nights of concerts and a Sunday evening sunset sail on the Gulf of Mexico have now become a yearly tradition!

The event will be at the Key West American Legion (5610 College Road). Leave your walking shoes at home - you’ll stay in one place so you can relax, bring a chair, your instruments and your appetites! As usual, vendors will be onsite to demonstrate the latest in quality instruments. There is no registration fee, but pre-registration is required by joining the mailing list: http://www.reverbnation.com/venue/keywe ... email=true. Please note that this year, all fees will be paid directly to the instructors. If you are traveling from out of town, you can get a great rate at Key West Concierge - courtesy of Sheri Cabanas: (305) 294-6019 – be sure and thank her when you call! When I let you know about events in the Keys, do you ever notice one recurring theme? The Florida Keys are the choice for repeat venues every year. Whether its art, music, and sailing events – you name it – the Florida Keys are the #1 destination for event planners and tourists alike. Our warm and friendly people, beautiful scenery and gorgeous weather make it a natural magnet. Set your compass for due south and come down for a visit. When you do, call me and I’ll show you why the Florida Keys will pull your heart down south for good!
