"I tell [young people] not to be afraid about starting at the bottom; that they can work their way up; that they need to learn all they can from people who have been in the business longer than they have been." - Katie Couric, new anchor
Getting ready to start a new agent orientation program gives you time to reflect over the events that have make the progression of rookie (newbie) to polished professional (AR Icon.) The latter comparison is still a ways away for me, but there are those in my professional circle that would describe me as a knowledgeable and energetic agent.
That looking back ... reminds me how much I have to thank the people in my past who have taken the opportunity to challenge, school and encourage me in my professional growth. When folks say, "How do you know that?" there has frequently been some far more experienced and wise colleague that had taken the time to explain, both process and procedure.
So in a very real way, helping new agents or even older agents with limited experience in one aspect of our business or another ... is a way we can plant the seeds of a better profession for tomorrow. Who knows, maybe the agent we help today ... will be our grand-daughter's agent tomorrow!
Next week when I start this program and they questions seem to come out of left field ... I promise to remember this message ... smile and think ... "I'm paying this forward ... and I want to help!"
