bRain PowerThat Post You Read This Morning May Pay Off This Evening!!

We read quite a few posts on Active Rain daily.  The breadth and diversity of the available posts is amazing.  No matter what category you want to hit, it's there!

Marketing ideas?  Check!
A good laugh?  Check!
Finance info?  Check!
Home inspections?  Check!

Again, it's ALL there and then some!  Class is always in session!

Recently, we've had a couple of cases where something we read and absorbed came into play almost immediately!

If you follow Debbie Gartner, you know she's Active Rain's resident flooring guru!  You want to know anything about wood floors, she's probably already done a post on it!  Last Saturday, she posted on distressed and handscraped hardwood flooring.  Very informative, but that type of flooring is NOT common around here.  But what do we encounter the next afternoon during a prelist appointment?  Distressed hardwood!  So do you think we got any "bonus points" with the sellers for being knowledgeable about the topic?  Sure beats going "That's purty wood you got there!!".

And the week before that Leslie Ebersole had posted a great comparison of short sale vs. foreclosure impacts.  What comes up that night during a client meeting?  Credit impacts of performing a short sale!  Again, great to be able to speak from a position of knowledge!

So keep reading and absorbing because that tidbit from this morning's posts, it just might help you serve your clients better today!

Keep on reading & learning!

Ssssssynthia, Isn't amazing what people do to their homes...which reminds me, guess I'll have to remove that duct tape before we go to sell in a few years :)

Bliz, I totally agree with your post. I am pretty new on AR and first did not think I would go to it several times a day, as I am not really a person for social websites (I am not posting a lot on fb as I am still a believer that no one would be really interested that I am in a good/grumpy mood today etc). However I found out that AR is totally different to for example fb. On AR you really can learn something new every day. There are so many great and informative posts every day and you can learn something new every day. I am becoming a AR adict.

I was once told by a mentor that if you learn just one new thing a day you will have learned 365 things by the end of the year. This is indeed a great place to do that!

Christine, We also haven't done much with FB.  We're here, we learn more here and this will be our primary focus.  And if you can tell you're becoming an AR addict...it's too late :)

Alan, Piece of cake to learn 365 new things in a year here!

Charita's re-blog sent me over.  And she disables comments, so I can't tell her I love her preface to your post!

And, absolutely.  I'll read something here, then it'll come up, and I've obtained the knowledge from some other knowledgable person to deal with it, handle it, not be surprised by it . . . great take on it!

Carla, It's wonderful, and sometimes the timing is just amazing between when I read it and it comes up!

Debbe, Read BB's post on that, scary what some people will do!

You are so right. I'm not an agent any more, but the things I learn here help me to do a better job of copywriting for my real estate agent clients.

Some days I'm too busy to be here long, so I make up for it after the work is done in the evening.

Marte, The  "real work" has to take priority, even though AR is calling us :)

Dennis & Terri, A post with a question usually gets some answers.  It's a little tougher initially to grab attention, but the longer you're with it and the bigger your subscriber base the more readily you can get responses.

I completely agree that this website is a wealth of knowledge, and have used what I've learned here with my own clients in my very short career (so far!).  It is definitely uncanny how often something I read one day comes up in a real estate conversation shortly thereafter!

Rhonda, Strange how it works isn't it?  Read in the morning, apply that day or the next!  Of course, the more we read the better the odds :)

Lanre, We get some like that occassionally, just doesn't mesh with the theme for the day or two, it's all good, no complaints here :)  Any time we can pick up a new subscriber and help someone else pick up one...it's an excellent day :)  And Debbie and Leslie are certainly worth the subscriptions!

In this age of working from a virtual office it definitely helps when others share about situations they face since many of us aren't in an office setting where we hear the latest weird thing or issue that comes up.

Samantha, Similar for us.  We only go to the office to pick up the mail and a rare in person meeting.  This is where we pick up the bulk of the new and different!
