It's Your Choice -- Will You Work Harder Or Smarter?

Long Island staging and interior designI couldn't help thinking tonight, as I was creating a floor plan for a design job, that there were two ways of doing this.  I could have the furniture all brought into the room, then drag it around till it worked in the space, or I could create my floor plan to scale online, and save some sore muscles.  The same principle would apply to any task we take on.  If we do our homework and prepare for the outcome ahead of time we can save ourselves a lot of aggravation along the way.

How many times in life do we wait too long to start a project, either for business or personally, only to get frantic as the deadline approaches and we're nowhere near complete.  I can now, at a moment's notice walk into the room I'll be doing and know exactly where everything goes.  I can already see the finished room in my mind's eye.

The expression, "it's so easy when you know how," certainly applies here.  A simple concept, yet it was my aha moment of the day.

It is definitely better to analyze sometimes before we jump into a project.

I agree that we should all work smarter...but we need to make sure we are doing the right thing for our business.

Building a house with my ex, he said measure twice, cut once.  Preparation and planning make for efficient projects!

Much better to plan it out beforehand and safe yourself the hassle of moving furniture ten times and breaking your back.  Fortunately, I have great space perception, so I never do a scale of the floorplan, I just know it will fit and it's all in my head.

That's a great "aha moment" if you ask me!  Planning out those details first also makes the project more enjoyable.

Geri - I too am a planer and list maker for your exact reasons above, especially "it's so easy when you know how." Thanks for the post!

Geri--Sometimes I spend too much time getting ready to get ready.  Planning is very important, but I also find that sometimes I let planning get in the way!!

Pat - I'm not super organized so I always tend to think in broad strokes and then start to zoom in to the nitty gritty.  I definitely do not suffer from overplanning.

Kristine - It's amazing how much easier I made things for myself with this one.  I know exactly what direction to take and the outcome is sure to be far better.

Valerie - You're absolutely right.  I just gave myself a gift of time and the job should go much more smoothly.  I don't have to waste time finding my direction.  It's right here.

Tammy - That's exactly it.  Now I can enjoy the project.  I have all the nitty gritty taken care of.

Roger - I tend to be a lot like that too, but the space I'm working with is small, multi functional, and includes a need for creating an easy flow into the rest of the space.

Kristen - That's always good advice.  If you plan it right and double check what you're doing, you're bound to save time and aggravation.

Jeffrey - That's a given. Thanks for stopping by.

Kristi - If you plan it right, you don't have to "worry" it.
