As a mortgage broker I'm sick and tired of all the negative media attention mortgage brokers receive. It's as if the misdeeds of some are used to crucify the entire industry. Worst of all is that there is no organization that is standing up for us and attempting to salvage our reputations. The National Association of Mortgage Brokers is the largest organization for mortgage brokers in the country yet they are doing nothing.

As such, I have created a petition to be sent to NAMB that is requesting for NAMB to change their ways and to create a national PR campaign promoting the services, expertise and knowledge of mortgage brokers.

Many feel as I do in that NAMB just doesn't do enough for their members and other are reluctant to join as a result. We don't lose anything by collecting signatures and forwarding them to NAMB. Worst case scenario is that I can open dialogue with them to see what can be done to change the public perception of the mortgage brokerage industry and why they haven't done so already.

The industry is changing and we need a strong voice and organization that will stand by us much like the way NAR stands behind their members. To view and possibly sign the petiton please cut and paste the below url into your browser if the below link does not work.

Thank you in advance to the Mortgage Brokers who sign the petition. Our industry is changing and we need a voice.

The first thing that the National Association of Mortgage Brokers should entertain would be a name change. NAMB is uncomfortably close to NAMBLA. I would suggest Biggest Association of Mortgage Brokers International which would be BAMBI.

The best thing your group could do would be to establish a code of ethics and then toss anyone that violates them. It also might help if you fervently make an effort to "out" brokers that have been involved in loan fraud or other questionable actions.

Good point John.  However, as a Realtor you have a very powerful association that is working for you.  I hear and see Realtor ads all the time.  They are telling people that they need to use a Realtor, that Realors are professional, etc.  That is what we are advocating for.  There is Fraud in every business.  There are crooks in every business.  Mortgage, Medical, Insurance, the Trades, and yes, Real Estate.  We Mortgage Brokers are taking a huge beating right now and all we are saying is that the organization that is suppose to be representing us needs to step up to the plate and shoulder some of the PR burden.

There are GOOD people in the Mortgage Business.  I have never put someone into a loan that they could not afford.  I have never used a Sub-Prime (or any other)product that was not in the best interest of the borrower.  I look out for my clients' interest always!  And I know there are many many others like me out there.
