Cocaineros DuelCocaineros Duel by John J. Gilmore

Published Dec. 2010 by Mainly Murder Press, Wethersfield, CT

Broken police detective Frank Reardon is struggling to rebuild his life while being the only one able to save others. Abandoning Connecticut after failing to capture his wife's murderer, he attempts to get lost in Costa Rica. While there, he is first branded a suspect in the murder of an unidentified woman and then drawn into the rescue of an old girlfriend captured by the cocaineros, a drug gang.

He is helped by a collection of unlikely allies, including a washed-up CIA operative, a U.S. counter-insurgency team, a mysterious Washington intelligence official and the Cuban Air Force. Frank's war concludes with a dramatic gun battle on the streets of Frank's hometown, Bridgeport, Connecticut.

John J. Gilmore writes fiction based on offbeat people he meets in his travels.  His characters are very often the invisible people we walk by every day of our lives.  He lives with his wife in Stratford, Connecticut.  He spends a great deal of time in Vermont.  His early career was in journalism.  He spent many years as a reporter and editor at the Connecticut Post and the former Long Branch (NJ) Daily Record. During his career in journalism he covered everything from police news to national political campaigns and was an award-winning columnist. John currently works in marketing for large law firms. He has handled media relations for mergers of law firms, crisis communications, and major news events involving the legal world and events related to 9-11, notable immigration battles and celebrities. He has won a number awards for his short stories, which have been published in Penworks, Vermont Ink and Umbrellastories.com. He has also written for Fairfield Now, an alumni magazine of Fairfield University, and Opus, an alumni magazine of Albertus Magnus College, and the former County Magazine.
