El Chapultepec, or "The Pec" as it is known, is arguably Denver's Best "Dive" Jazz and Blues Bar. Located at 1962 Market Street on the north side of Denver's Lodo Neighborhood, El Chapultepec is a short distance from Denver's Coors Field. Since first opening in 1951, many legendary jazz and blues musicians have played at this small Denver venue. With live jazz that is performed seven nights a week. Some amazing notable musicians that have played at El Chapultepec are:
- Frank Sinatra
- Tony Bennett
- Ella Fitzgerald
- Wynton Marsalis
- Branford Marsalis
- Red Holloway
While he was campaigning for his Presidential bid, Bill Clinton also stopped by El Chapultepec and played a couple of sets on his saxophone.
Rock & Roll has also not been left out with perfomances from:
- Paul McCartney
- Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
The food served at El Chapultepec is Mexican. If you like your green chili hot, you may want to try it here. The burritos aren't bad either. But there is always a crowd, so even though there is no dress code or cover, you will want to come early to get a seat. There is also a two drink minimum per set.
