Have the next best developing idea for Huntsville, AL? Want to have your say as to what needs to be done, where a certain store/restaurant is needed? You have your chance. On Wednesday, January 19, 2011 the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology will host a retail summit to pinpoint stores and restaurants that local residents want the city to pursue in 2011 and beyond. Called "Developing Ideas: Planning for Huntsville's Future".

The event includes a panel discussion led by Mayor Tommy Battle and two city department heads directly involved in retail recruitment, Economic Development Director Joe Vallely and Acting Planning Director Marie Bostick. Other panelists are commercial developer Don Beck, downtown real estate expert Donna Lamb, A.J. Smith of Smith Appraisals and Huntsville Development News blogger James Vandiver.

If you can’t make it to the meeting, check this out: the “Ideas Map” the City has created where you can give feedback on specific stores, etc., that you think would work in different parts of town. Find the map at

So, if you have been waiting for your favorite restaurant, store, etc. to move into your part of town…let everyone know!! I already did.
