Ever been to an incredibly upscale, high cost, opulent restaurant? No, no, no, the one a step above the one you just thought of. You know the place I'm talking about. There is one or two almost any where you go in our great country. The place where you might not be sure of how to pronounce everything on the menu. The place where you get a utensil or two you might not be sure how to use. The place where you need to get a tad pumped up before the 500.00+ check comes so you don't pass out from hyperventilation. For her 30th birthday I took my girlfriend to just such a place. It's in Philadelphia, called Le Bec Fin. That's http://www.lebecfin.com/Awesome place to eat, I should say dine. In retrospect, I was some what a fish out of water. Hard time pronouncing the various menu items, had a utensil I HAD to ask its purpose. The entire experience was truly something she nor I will not soon forget. But the one thing that sticks in my mind to this very day........
The dreaded dessert cart.
It was wonderful. Think of any type of sweet, tasty delight eaten after a grand meal and it was there. Sugar shock was surely only a few folk or spoon fulls away. But, ohhhhh, the anxiety of the decision. Which one shall each of us choose. They all look so good. The torture! Our palms were moist, our foreheads sweating, a slight shake of the angst we each felt trying to make the right choice. After all, might be a few years til we get back here. It has to be the right.......INTERRUPTED! Wait, we see the waiter approach us. His message is akin to the very first time I ever got promoted. 'If you have a hard time deciding which you'd like, you can a have a little of each one you'd like'. HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! I was going to stuff my self with just one. Now I can stuff myself with samples of everything. Must have been our lucky day! What a blast that was.
Selling is really similar to that dessert cart. You can always do / have a little of everything vs. a glutinous amount of one thing. You've heard of 'all your eggs in one basket'. While a person maybe experiencing success by pursuing one avenue of business development. They may also be making a huge error by ignoring all the other things they were doing before that vehicle for success arrived. In a discussion with one of my Associates today, we talked about doing a little bit of everything every day. It's always carried me through the good times as well as the not so good times. Minimally each day, so many former client contacts, so many network contacts, so many field visits, so many mail pieces, some many prospect identifications. A Daily plan of action broken down into several attainable tasks. Nothing too difficult. Just a little of a lot each and every day. When you leave at night, you leave with a sense of accomplishment, and plan for the following day. VARLAR!!! Out of no where a lean mean lending machine! Now where's that dessert cart???????
Scott, you're really good at this blogging thing. :o)
