The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance. - Cicero - 55 BC

Great post!!!!!!! I totally agree we are heading down the same road.
Ole Cic' had the right idea. Did he ever suggest a way to fix the problem?
Rich - I had this in an e-mail today, and couldn't resist blogging it.
Mike - I think you have to stop the entitlement plans. Money for nothing is sure to end up in the fall of the empire,
This alleged quote from Marcus Tullius Cicero began circulating on the web in 2008; is based on a statement from the great Roman orator, but someone, along the way, added a lot to it. The actual quote is: "The arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and assistance to foreign hands should be curtailed, lest Rome fall."
(The percentage of the US budget that goes to foreign aid is less than 1/2 of one percent. And there are alot of strings attached to that aid, like buying American services/products with it)
The arrogance part has been true for a long, long time.
Yay!
So true, if we would stop spending it would solve a ton of issues.
Can't wait for 2012 to come.
Whether or not Cicero made the entire quote, these are concepts to be considered.
Missy - The spending by congress stops today.
Mike - If he didn't say it, he should have.
Yes, but when one tries to put THOSE words in the month of famed orator, you give it false gravitas and it purports to support a political philosophy with which you agree, when, in reality, it does nothing of the sort....But, of course, that's the point of fake e-mails
