I L♥VE Boardwalk Empire * I got into the HBO series 3 episodes too late and got caught up over the holidays with the beginnings of Nucky, The Commodore and Atlantic City.
I was very surprised to learn that the show is actually based on a REAL book and REAL characters. While many have likened it to The Sopranos, this story is actually mostly true and Nelson Johnson's book Boardwalk Empire is the basis for the HBO story.
HBO's Nucky Thompson is actually Nucky Johnson and the importance of ROADS, the use of Africian Americans for the hotel industry, the back room dealings with bootlegging, the MOB and politics makes the TRUE story more strange than the HBO fiction.
Kudos to HBO for winning the Golden Globe for the BEST TV Series in the DRAMA category and for Steve Buscemi for winning the Best Actor award!
