Does this winter weather seem extreme in all parts of the country lately? From floods and rain in the West to Christmas blizzards in New York City to ice storms in the South, we're seeing it all this year.

Sunday was finally a nice day here in the Peak of Good Living of Apex North Carolina, so we took the opportunity to take a family walk with the dog to our favorite neighborhood park- Crowder Park off TenTen Rd.

Lo and behold, there was ice on the pond!! 5 days after our big ice storm, parts of the pond were still frozen over!

Now, not thick enough for a game of ice hockey that my husband dreamed of from when he was young.  But thick enough to keep branches from sinking.

And thick enough to keep the turtles from peeking their heads up or the ducks from swimming on it.

Although ducks can't read, this one seemed to know enough to stay off the slippery bridge!

The temperature got up to the 50's on Sunday, so by now all of the ice is surely melted.  And it may be years before we see Crowder Pond frozen again.  This was the first time in the 10 years that I've lived here that I've seen it frozen.

Despite the icy, cold temps looks like a great place to walk, Linda.  Crazy weather everywhere even Florida, Hawaii and Australia.  Be safe & try to stay warm at least inside.

It was a cold December here in Florida.  The past few weeks have been nice and hopefully will remain like this throughout the winter.  I'm guessing you're not to fond of the ice in the lake - looks cold.

Hi Mary- good to see you back. Yes, the park is always a beautiful place to walk. Thanks for stopping in.

Gabe- No, not fond of the cold, that's why I moved from Buffalo 25 years ago.Glad things are warming up in Florida. We're looking for any signs of spring here too.
