What Is Homestead?  Homestead Exemption is a constitutional guarantee that reduces the assessed value of Residential Property by $25,000 for qualified Perminent Residents and an additional $25,000 exemption for values over $50,000. 

What Qualifies You for the Exemption?                                                                                             

  • The Home must be your Primary Residence
  • You may Not have Homesteaded Property in any Other State

What Other Exemtions Are Available?

  • $500 Widow's and Widower's Exemption
  • $500 Disability Exemption
  • $5,000 Service-Connected Disability Exemption with 10% disability

Totally & Permanently Disabled Persons who meet the requirements for Homestead Exemption and Who are Totally and Permanently Disabled are exempt from ALL ad valorem taxation of qualifying real property.   Any ex-service member who was a resident of the State of Florida upon entering the military service, is 65 years of age or older, was discharged under honorable conditions and who's disablility is considered combat related, shal qualify to recieve a percentage discount from the amount of the ad valorem tax on homesteaded property.  The discount shall be in a pecentage equal to the percentage of the veteran's permanent, service-connected disability.

The Homestead Exemption or "Save Our Homes" also insures that you are protected from creditor liens except construction, Tax, or Mortgage.   To recieve the disability and military discounts, documentation must be presented. 

You can visit your County Appraisers office in your Local Court House to File Your Exemption.  If You are a Pasco County Resident you can visit  New port Richey Office 727-847-8151  or Dade City Office 352-521-4433  or Land O'Lakes 813-929-2780  or Gulf Harbors 727-847-8151 (New Port Richey)  the internet address for the Pasco County Appraiser is  http://www.appraiser.pascogov.com

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING WITH YOU:

  1. Recorded Deed or Tax Bill which Reflects the applicant as the Owner of the Property Before January 1st of the previous year.
  2. Florida's Drivers License
  3. Florida Vehicle Registration
  4. Social Security Number for Applicant and Spouse
  5. Pasco County Voter Registration Card
  6. Permanent Visa and a declaration of domicile for non US Citizens (declaration obtained through the clerk of the court)
  7. Mobile Home Registration or Title, if oyur Mobile Home needs to be declared as real property

I Suggest Having the Deed, Drivers License, Social Security Number and Registration for Non Mobile Residential Filings.  You DO NOT have to Be a Registered Voter to File Homestead Exemption.
