6 Comments on My backyard friends, Stellar's Jays and others in West Linn Oregon
Cindy--I remember seeing Stellar Jays in CA while camping many years ago. They are bigger than the Blue Jays we have in the east. Thanks for the video.
Hi Mary, thanks for checking it out. They are pretty big and smart. I wish I could tell them apart to see if it's the same one that lands on the rail asking for nuts.
Cindy--I have birder friends that band birds. Guess they would know which one is which. i just enjoy them all.
Oh boy...I wouldn't want to tangle with one if these guys! They usually fly away quickly when I go to the door. I love em all too..very fun and relaxing to watch.
Cindy, Stellar's Jays (also spelled Steller's) are very pretty birds and the one difference they have with Blue Jays is the top notch on their heads. We have them here in my backyard in Wilsonville sometimes, mostly though we have a pair of Jays that are here all of the time. Beautiful birds. They are very territorial. We also have lots of chickadees, nuthatches and birds I don't know the names of. You are fortunate to live near the river and see all of these wonderful birds. Thanks for posting the photos.
Hi Mary, Welcome to ActiveRain! I haven't noticed any couples, just lots of Jays that show up when I put the peanuts out. My husband bought me several bird books for Christmas so I can finally know what birds are which. I still am learning!
