In the past few weeks, I've seen a lot of posts by new bloggers looking for advice, help and direction... so I thought I'd post some of my favorite blog resources as sort of a starting point or reference for new bloggers.
My first words of advice would be to read other people's blogs. See what attracts you to read certain blogs. Is it the topic, the headline, the writing style? Make comments, try to give insightful feedback, this will get you known in the community and will help to generate interest in your own blog. Comments like "nice post" probably won't get you much attention and...
After all, you're competiting for the reader's attention and limited time while trying to build your own little community. If you want to stand out from the crowd, just be yourself, be honest and be original. Share your ideas, knowledge and stories. In other words, talk about what you know.
To help get you going, here are some of my favorite blog marketing references and further food for thought...
Three free chapters from Jeremy Wright's book titled Blog Marketing.
Technorati's Blogging 101 a nice overview of blogging with definitions of common blogging terms.
Almost anything written by Mary McKnight, always well written and stuff you really need to know.
The Widget Box, tons of useful and/or fun accessories to spice up your blog.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. More goodies, widgets and strategies are popping up each week related to blogging so I'll post the most interesting ones I see as I find them. Feel free to share your own favorite blog toys and resources. There are so many of them out there, we can all learn a lot from each other.
