What's Holding You Back?  I have asked myself that question...Usually this time of the year.  It seems to be normal for folks to look at their lives and business and try to figure out how to do better.

I am reading a very good book that my wife bought me as a Christmas present.  The book is by John Ortberg.  It is "If You Want To Walk On Water, You've Got To Get Out Of The Boat"  Notice...I said reading...I am not finished with it yet.

What's Holding You Back?  I love books that pull the truth out of the murkiness and help me understand what is going on.

Mr. Ortberg does just that.  He states that the most common single command in the Bible is "Fear Not".  I may have heard that at some point previously, but if I did, It sure didn't register  in my mind.  He quotes Henry David Thoreau as saying "Nothing is so much to be feared as fear."  Strong stuff here.

What's Holding You Back?  The last bit of wisdom that I noted was from Lloyd Ogilvie...He notes that there are 366 "Fear Not" verses in the Bible...How convenient.  One for every day of the year...yep, even leap year.

I am looking forward to finishing this fine book and putting his wisdom to work!

Fear of failure.. that is what paralyzes people. . without realizing that failure eventually is what brings you success

Fernando.  Thank You for commenting...letting fear paralyze us is in itself failure.  We have to step out...

John,

Great blog, I am going to check out that book.  I actually just posted a similar blog on Monday, quoting Edison who has a similar type philosphy.  One thing I know is if you think it, it will happen, so if you are thinking of something negative, ie fear, then it will happen.  If you "Fear Not", you will be successful and achieve your dreams and goals!

"Fear" is an acronym for "false evidence appearing real." I'll check out the book. Thanks!

I was just told yesterday that "Failure is the road of least persistence."  Need to remember that.  I think I'll give your book a shot too.

Jeramie,  Thank You for the kind words.  I will ck out your post as well.  "Fear Not!"

Wayne,  I had heard the acronym before as well...Isn't it funny how we have to be in a receptive mode for things to sink in...

Gary,  I like that quote...I have been accused of being persistent a time or two, or three...Thank You for your commenting.

Have a Great Day!

John,

Sounds like an awesome book.  I was taught that the opposite of fear is love.  We can fear to o things or we can love to do things... hate and love are actually very closely related with only a thin line between them and many people can cross that line so quickly.  But fear is a different issue altogether.. :)  Fear drives out love and love drives out fear..
