Watch That Roof -- It's Dangerous Below

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Venture Realty International

Watch out for falling ice and snow!

Snow sliding off of roof

This is snow falling from a roof.  With freezing and thawing it can change to a deadly mixture of ice and snow.

Broken windshield

Here is what happen to my Mom's Jeep from ice hitting directly on the windshield.  You don't want this to happen to you.  Each year people are killed by falling icicles and chunks of ice.  Be Careful!!

Or consider moving to Latin America  -- wouldn't you rather get away from this and live on the beach.  I'd be glad to help.

Nothing like a Sunny Beach to get that thought out of your mind.

Did the insurance company cover it, or was it considered an Act of God?

Wish you could fly your family south for the winter to get away from it all.

Hey Gary!  That's some pic of the snow fall in action! I posted some pics the other day of some lethal icicles that we have here in CT. We have gotten hit with snow and ice really hard this winter, and there's more right around the corner!  Ugh.  Have to be really careful that you're not standing or walking anywhere near a possible snowslide or icicles letting loose!

Sorry that I'm running behind to reply -- had to get the Jeep to town for the new windshield.

Chris, After seeing the damage, I thought it was important to warn people. I'm glad that you have pulled the snow off of your roof.

Don,  I'm looking forward to the next time I get to a beach and can forget about snow.

Sheila,
We are still getting lots of snow. We had another four or 5 inches today. And the windshield is much less than the deductible.

Patricia, We didn't even try to use the insurance, just shopped around for a good quote and good service to get the Jeep fixed.

Shelton, Actually, the two shots are at different times. I had the first picture from a previous storm and I usually make certain that the vehicles are away from the house. I forgot this time and when it warmed up the ice and snow when shooting off.

Barbara,  I'm glad you like the action shot. I heard the noise of a little bit of snow falling from the roof so I ran and grabbed my camera just in time to get that photo.

I never would have thought that just snow from the roof could do that!  Thanks for the shout out!

Brenda,  It is amazing how much force wet heavy snow and ice can have.  It really gives me a new awarness of avalanche danger, too.
