Certainty in Cedar

Has anyone else become a fan of Cedar Bark Mulch? I know I have. There is a property in the bark of a Cedar tree that works as a natural deterrent to insects. I have experienced a notable reduction in pesky plant pests sense my latest addition of Cedar mulch. I use it most particularly in my herb garden where I like to keep things organic and not use insecticides of any sort. The Cedar works great on most pests, but I will admit did not keep a few caterpillars from attacking my parsley crop. Try it out, it helps!

I've got a dog that is allergic to cedar (in her dog bed of all places) If it weren't for her.... I'd have it everywhere!

Hi Debi, I have heard of that happening before. My step mother has a Doberman that is allergic as well and so she cant use Cedar mulch either. Well it just goes to show that there is something abrasive in Cedar that some creatures cant handle. I just wish it worked on cats as well. I like cats, but not excusing themselves in my garden!

Termites!! really?! That is a definate plus indeed! Makes me want to go out and buy a whole truck bed load. Thanks for the info Candy.

We have used a lot of cedar over the years here Shellee. However I didn't know about its' deterring qualities. We primarily used it as landscape dressing. Good to know about the bugs not liking it!
