Time Blocking - SO Overwhelmed & Liberated All At Once Right Now!

"If it's not on your calendar it doesn't exist!"  I've heard this quote many times in my life.  I am not sure where it originated from, but it's a great quote to live by.  Time and time again I have made my "ideal calendar" or "ideal schedule" of what I want my week to look like.  As a mother of 4 young children, a full time REALTOR and blogger, I don't always stick to what I'd like to see in my week.  Seems almost impossible!!!

After seeing the quote "If it's not on your calendar it doesn't exist" this morning and trying to figure out how to remember to call my father and workout at the gym daily, I have decided to sit down and work on this calendar thing once and for all!

I can happily say it didn't take me too long to figure out how to fill it up.  There are so many productive activities we can choose throughout our days.  I feel excited and liberated now that I have this strict map in front of me that I know will bring me more success, but at the same time I'm feeling very overwhelmed!  I don't expect to be able to stick to this thing 100%.  I know in our industry stuff always pops up.  I hope to be up and running at an 80% efficiency with it before long and if I can keep that pace, I will be very satisfied.

I am learning how to say "no" and how to spend my time more wisely to help build my future.  I love to help everyone and say yes to doing everything, but that's just not possible.  Then I feel overextended and I feel like an underachiever with all of this potential that I'm not putting to good use.

Here's a peak at some of the things that made it into my calendar:

  • Weekly video blog
  • Visiting Expired Listings
  • Exercise - 5x Per Week
  • Lead Generating Calls
  • Blogging Daily and/or Reading Blogs
  • Calling my dad in NC
  • Spin Class
  • Listing Updating & Maintenance
  • Lunch
  • Bedtime
My goal is to set it and forget it!  Put it in that Google Calendar and then work around that when looking what I can do for others or what social functions I can attend.  Are you sticking to a schedule?

I work off list both personal and business but I like the calendar and will try integrating the list into the calendar.  Might even try Google Calendar.  Thanks.

The real purpose for the calender and to do list is to be organized.  The phone rings with a client wanting to see property.  You are off and running.  You come back and you have your calender to focus you back to your goals.  Without a calender you might as well write your to do and appointments on the ice:)

Very true Conrad!  I have been using Google calendars for awhile now, but not to the extent that I should be.  Now every tiny little thing is going in there.  I think it will help a lot.

Thanks Michele!  Everything does have a place.  It's all about looking at it with a positive attitude and not a negative one.  We're in this business to be successful and not to just be flexible.  :)

Kathleen- Think this will help ALL of us!!  If it's not in there, it doesn't exist AND start with YOURSELF and what is important to you and move outwards!

I like it - I'm running a full schedule for the week - I will say I try to video blog daily - if I'm previewing a property or see something, camera comes out...
