Home inspectors should be members of a professional home inspection organization such as NACHI or ASHI and the insepction report should adhere to that organization's Standards of Practice.
Beware of unafilliated inspectors. In addition to standards which help ensure that reports meet mimimum guidelines, these organizations provide training and educational opportunities and ongoing education is a requirement of membership.
There are many "moving parts" that go into the purchase of a home. Each with their own costs. The inspection is a critical component!
