City of Tucson Violations - Where To Find the Answers??
My clients purchased a REO last summer, and just received a City of Tucson Notice of Violation. They are being told they have to clean the weeds and grass off the "Common area" along a pathway. There isn't an homeowner's association governing appearance or providing a list of covenants and restrictions.
So, if you have purchased a home within the city limits of Tucson, without an HOA, and never received much besides a pg. number or case number from Title and Escrow - it could be because that Do's and Don't list is much longer than they wanted to print out.
Here's some directions on how to find the requirements and restrictions governing Tucson City Homes:

Part II Tucson Code
Chapter 16 - Neighborhood preservation
Article II - Maintenance
This will give you a lengthy list of reading to do, and what you do, and don't need a permit for.
For instance, did you know that if your sidewalk is broken adjacent to your property, it is your responsibility to have it fixed?
Did you know that often if you have an alleyway behind your home, you may be responsible for its upkeep, at least to the center "line"?
There are all sorts of rules and regulations govering home ownership within city limits, with or without a HOA. Do yourself a favor and read up, before you receive a City of Tucson Notice of Violation.
Also, get to know your neighbors and make friends -- after all, it is often they that called the complaint in in the first place, sending the city inspector out to check your situation.
