7 Ways to Cure Cabin Fever- People Need People
I love this post. As winter wears on in the colder parts of the Country it can cause us to go a little stir crazy....the kids really want to be outside but sometimes we just can not let them. I love your seven ideas here...all good and worth a try Mary.
In 1896, when Livermore was but a small ranching community, the women in the area formed the Livermore Women's Club.
Thirty ladies came from ranches miles away, some on buckboard, some on horseback and some in buggies. It was quite an effort for these women to get together, but exciting to visit with one another, participate in fund raising, and organize dances and charitable efforts for the community.
I read that often the men accompanied their wives, either to insure safe travel and/or to socialize with the other men there as well.
Why would these hard working families even bother driving the distance? It's simple,
People need other people.
Their lives became richer with social interaction, their isolation seemed far less.

According to a recent article in ‘Daily Health News', when we don't have social interaction or strong ties to other people, it can be very detrimental to our health and well being.
I know that if I didn't have a career, family nearby and people to talk and laugh with that the "men in the little white coats" would be coming to take me away in no time!
"Cabin fever" can set in when we stay inside our homes for long periods of time, particularly in winter or long bouts of inclement weather. It can be very isolating, so much so that even visitors dressed in white coats might be a welcome sight! LOL
People need people.

Isn't it interesting that it's called "Cabin" fever? and not Apartment Fever? or Condo fever? or House Fever?
"Cabin fever" can occur anywhere and some people, due to different circumstances, even feel isolated and lonely in large cities where there are plenty of places to go and people to see.
Here are a few ideas to avoid cabin fever and/or improve your social interaction no matter where you live.
•1) Get outside and take a walk/ develop an exercise routine
•2) Take a class - learn something new.
•3) Invite your extended family/neighbors over - don't wait for them to call you
•4) Volunteer/ Help others
•5) Contact a friend or an associate - have lunch, have a long telephone conversation, meet at a new restaurant- go shopping
•6) Participate in church activities
•7) Join community clubs or groups
There are many opportunities to get together in our Livermore/Red Feather Lakes Communities; no need to worry about turning into a hermit if that's not your cup of tea.
For starters check out the Events Calendars for speakers, classes, volunteering and groups at:
Red Feather Lakes Historical Society
And that's only a start, at least most of us have vehicles, we don't have to saddle up the horses to get "to town" anymore!
