Interesting tidbit from the morning newspaper - The South Lake Union Streetcar, which is currently under construction, had previously been known as the South Lake Union Trolley (S.L.U.T.).  Not the best choice.  And, well, area businesses & residents had been having fun with the acronym creating this apparently popular "Ride the S.L.U.T" t-shirts.

On a serious note, the streetcar links the south Eastlake neighborhood (Lake Union) to Westlake Center in downtown, and is part of Paul Allen's vision to re-invent the South Lake Union area.  Half the funds for the $50 million dollar project was garnered through a voluntary tax from businesses on the streetcar route.

The route passes by three of Paul Allen's SLU condominium projects - Enso, 2200 Westlake and Rollin Street - as well as Microsoft's new SLU offices in the Westlake/Terry Building.

The streetcar is expected to be operational this coming December. Eventually, the plan is to extend the line to the University District, Capitol Hill and the International District.
