SOMIS is an unincorporated area in our very own Ventura County. It lies just north of the Camarillo city limits. Generally, it's recognized boundaries are the areas around the intersection of Somis Road (aka: State Route 34), and Los Angeles Avenue (aka: State Route 118). The 118 divides uptown and downtown Somis. Officially, it's boundaries are any residences in the 93066 zip code.
As of 2000, the total population was 2,946. Primarily it is an agricultural area, although it does have it's own market ("Somis Market"), fire station, post office, elementary school and a variety of shops - including the Somis Nut House. As far as real estate goes, there is one main residential tract and many large estates and ranches. Locally, there is no direct government, but it is serviced by the Ventura County Sheriff's Dept, and the Ventura County Fire Department. So, even though you can live a country life, you're still safe and protected by our county's best.
