GE Soars, B of A Sinks and Dow Rises

Yesterday I talked about the two big earnings releases today.  Well to borrow a Dickens phrase from A Tale of Two Cities, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."  While GE came out with a stellar 51% improvement in earnings,  Bank of America had none at all.  In fact they lost $1.6 billion.  It seems that with their own housing loan portfolio combined with Countrywide loans they acquired, they had more losses that they could handle.  What did the Dow do in the face of all of this?  It closed up 49 points.

Wow! GE had a great report! Some companies are handling the recent recession well, like GE and Ford, and some are not. B of A is going to need to make some hard decisions.
