22 Comments on February 16, 2009 Predictions - The party's over...
I've felt the buzz of Active Rain being a thriving community since day one. I got off to a slow start, but once I committed, there's been no turning back. I think the blog is great, especially knowing the dates certain things happened. That's really great. Love the chart. AR rules!
Maureen - As a one time active member of Broker Agent Social I can say there is NO comparison to AR. I have not been on the Broker Agent site for well over a year......I may need to revisit........but back then I just did not see much benefit. Once I got more involved in Active Rain ( in part, due to your encouragement back in December) I find myself signing on and participating every day. Long live ActiveRain.
Good Morning Maureen. Thanks for the history lesson! Party On!!
Managing growth is AR's largest problem, I think, and mostly from a delivery standpoint from time to time.
And it is a problem that many poseurs envy.
Here's Brad's announcement on February 16, 2009. New RainMaker Membership Plan It's got 700 +/- commments. It can open very, very slow.
Good Morning Maureen, I was not active with ActiveRain until this Nov. It was nice to ready the history of ActiveRain.
Arleen Had you not heard of ActiveRain before? I am always surprised that people in 2007, 2008 were not aware of ActiveRain.
Of course many were and just hoped it would go away...
Maureen ... now be nice ... in 2007 and 2008 I had finally decided that email was no longer a phase! Technology moves slowly through me! I admit with joy ... that since becoming active on ActiveRain I find technology is a lot easier to deal with .... may be because I'm involved with it everyday?
Maureen,
Who knew, the party was over before I even got here. It works for me. There will be the next and future platforms, but not sure that AR will go away. I see more it EVOLVING....
Loved the history lessons:-)
All the best, Michelle
Jack did you know of ActiveRain in 2007, 2008? Those who predicted the demise of ActiveRain (and Zillow) wanted something else to be the next largest real estate network.
A big real estate social media guru who shall remain nameless is now an advertiser on ActiveRain... everytime I see her mug in that top slot looking out at us I remember her saying "The door has closed on ActiveRain" or something like that in order to promote some other real estate blogs. Because ActiveRain was charging there was no reason to become a member...
She may not remain nameless.
Michelle you weren't here? I would have thought you were.
Been here for a few years now but really getting much more involvement than I did in the past. Above all I am still learning and always growing from this site. Others will come and go but this one will be here for awhile in my opinion
Thanks Bob Perhaps someday ActiveRain will be the Myspace of the real estate industry rather than the Facebook of the real estate industry... or is ActiveRain the blogger.com (still plenty of blogs there not growing in leaps and bounds but not imploding) of the real estate industry? I don't have a crystal ball. Those who predicted the party was over for ActiveRain in 2009 wonder what they are predicting now.
Maureen I am glad the party is not over I have enjoyed being a part of the network. So happy to see how the management team is always implement new stuff to keep the site relevant.
Jennifer I think the party will go on because I believe there is value and you are right it is relevant. I read Brad Andersohn's post yesterday about his 4 year anniversary on AR and went to read his first post and commented there instead of just joining in congratulating him on 4 years on the featured post.
There is a gold mine of older content here. Some of it gets dated, technology goes on but one post builds on another.
Maureen, you're spot on, there is a wealth of intel here.
Boy you have good memory....when someone stated AR as being her I think of AR being ambiguous in it's orientation going back and forth and in between.
The email I sent via AR to you bounced back to me.
I just realized Key Yessaad had to be a member.... and he was / is of course. He only Re-Blogged a few times since he posted similar predictions there and did not stay Grandfathered when they asked people to post publicly last summer.

Interesting conversation in 2009, Brad and Rich were still employees.
Yessaad predicts in the comments there that Zolve.com blogs will flourish. Zolve.com is still around but I don't think they've got blogs anymore. And I think there he says Zillow will do OK but on Broker Agent Social he was saying Zillow would fail too but Trulia would flourish.
Been here four years next month...I have always been one to be the last to leave any party. I will let you know when it truly is over! :)
email me when it's over Gary so I have the sense to go home.... thanks
Maureen,
For me that was a history lesson. I was on AR, but I either did not notice it, or forget about the predictions.
I think predictions are the most fascinating business at the time of predictions. It is not that often that people would remember the predictions, no matter how bold they were, like you did here.
I did not know these particular predicitions until last year. I can't remember how I found them really. I did not find them on ActiveRain. Duh!
I know there were posts on AcitiveRain predicting THE END of ActiveRain as we know it.
I have never heard of him, Key Yessad. I have heard of Broker Agent Social. It used to be just "Broker Agent", it was spam in our email masquerading as education. It went social just like everything else in 2006? 2007?
The comments on Brad's post announcing the changes are interesting. Who thought the fact that AR was charging was a death knell?... who said we'll see. Who said "they oughta charge $___ instead" really interesting two years later. There are 7000 + comments though... that's crazy and the other day it opened really slow.
The comments on Key Yessad's AR post http://activerain.com/blogsview/937510/real-estate-social-networking-websites-must-learn-from-activerain-s-announcement- are interesting too. Way less than 700. Brad and Rich who were employees at the time.
I know real estate educator and social media guru Amy Chorew said in a class in 2009 or 2010 that ActiveRain was over because of fees. She was selling another blogging platform.
