Start Your Own Sedona Neighborhood Watch

You're pulling weeds from the front lawn when one of your neighbors leans over the fence to tell you their son's bike was stolen from their garage or an elderly woman had her purse snatched. You're shocked. In your neighborhood? Yes, it can happen anywhere. But by organizing a Neighborhood Watch, these crimes can be stopped and, in the process, help raise property values for the entire neighborhood.

Recruit your neighbors

Property crimes - burglary, vandalism, and auto theft - make up more than 75% of criminal behavior in this country according to statistics. To help combat these incidents, law enforcement will actively support a Neighborhood Watch. Contact your neighborhood police department. They are a valuable resource and will give you tips on organizing your group. There's no formal training required to join.

Talk to your neighbors and ask them to participate. A Neighborhood Watch is a great way to unite the community and have fun!

Set up a meeting

Determine the area your Watch group will cover. Keep in mind that the bigger the area, the bigger the group will be and the more time you'll need to organize everything. If your Watch only covers your street, meetings can probably be held in a private home. If your area is much bigger, you may need to obtain permission to use a school or church in the area.

Stay active.

Don't wait for somebody else to get things rolling. If you're willing to take the initiative, you'll probably find a lot of people interested in taking measures to keep their home and neighborhood safe.

It's your community. It's your choice.
