I've had my websites for a long time. And lately, I've been seeing a new spam technique.

My websites are for my clients, both buyers and sellers. And, they're free to sign up and use the IDX. And, that's fine with me.

However, lately, I'm getting sign ups from OUT OF AREA inspectors. And, they say upfront that they want me to contact them. I don't think so. Why would I want to a) link to their site or b) advertise their services. I don't know them and I've never used them.

But, I guess if they hit enough agents they'll end up with some more links. In the state of Illinois inspectors must be licensed. I've used about 3 or 4 from our local area. And, they'll been professional. And, I've never heard one tell my buyer that he paid too much for house either!

So my delete button is getting much more action these days!

I get many professional contacts through my consumer website too. Its not a big deal, as long as I get some real contacts also!!! I just invite them to active rain!

Eileen!  I know what you mean!  They seem to be coming out of the woodwork don't they?  I used to look forward to getting responses on my site and email.....  I now dread going to check.... ugh!

I think there must be some inspector organization that is telling these guys to do this. Have you noticed what they do here on AR. I had one come to an open house "bearing gifts". Sorry, that's not going to put him on my list of referrals! GEEZ!!!

Cris,

Yes, spammers do find a way, don't they?

Michael,

I have a problem "inviting" people who spam to join any group that I'm a member of.

Diane,

Yes, it's increasing...but at least, there are also "real" people making requests.

Elaine,

I think that you may be correct. And, yes, if I'm going to "promote" an inspector, it's going to be someone that I know and have worked with.

Anthony,

The problem is that it just takes time away from those people who really need your help.
