My Best Blog Got Only ONE Comment....Making The Case For Hyper-Local

By

This is a long overdue post. I have a little post that got one little comment....yet is making an impact in my community and in the way I blog in general. Last week I got confirmation that it was working.

I managed to get out of the house and hit the local Taco Tuesday with the ladies of Mission Viejo....been a long time since I had the time.  I was surprised when an acquaintance came up to me to talk about an Active Rain post. What?

She said that she was referred to a post I wrote by a friend of hers when she was looking for local election results. The day after the elections, I had a hard time finding information about this myself....so I blogged about it. A simple blog with results.

She in turn had suggested it to others and made a point of mentioning that I was a Realtor®....great word of mouth advertising.

What's more.....

I pulled up the statistics for that post and there were 1245 clicks. ONE comment. This post was never written for comments, it was written to serve my city and that's exactly what it did. I found myself the topic of conversation that Tuesday....they were impressed that I had blogged about things the community was interested in....service!

What it reinforced is that if I'm asking the questions or looking for the information...others are too. I want to fill that need. So if our local boy, Mark Sanchez wins today with the Jets....expect another blog post from me.

Karen, you are sooooo right!  When I look back on posts that I wrote for a subdivision or area report ~ the hits are tremendous.  But the comments sometimes are dismall to say the least!  But hey, no problem ~ we blog to be the source for great info on our area...  I'll take the calls instead of comments  any day!

P.S - congrats on the feature!!!

Thanks for the encouraging blog!

I wrote what I thought was my best one last week and no comments.  It was geared towards the home-owner and I tried to make it local as well.  So hopefully it will result in local awareness.

I had forgotten I was blogging to get noticed in my business, not on ActiveRain!

Karen, very few blog posts that get comments by the ActiveRain community generate little interest with the communities we serve. I have always noted that I get the most views and clicks with posts about local events and activities, and very few comments. The acknowledgment of the community makes us feel good, but the phone calls from the people in the community are what pay the bills.

Karen,

I very rarely look at statistics, but I always wondered that the blogs that got no or very few comments were getting the most clicks.

Some are just not for comments.
