I have to admit this was found my family yesterday completely by accident in a series of “Really, I didn’t know that” moments that will follow over the next couple days. Myself and my two oldest decided to take the trek from the top to the bottom and around the wildlife refuge to see if we could find a Geocache or two, but on that count we were a bust.

To be honest, besides a few dogs, we were actually a bust on the wildlife as well on this day. We could hear the birds from all over, but the ground was so muddy in spots, it was very hard to get near where it sounded like where the birds were hanging out. (We will go back sooner than later, try to find the birds and the cache – promise)

But, if you are looking for an amazing hike with a view, and hopefully some wildlife, then I suggest you check out the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. During the summer when you are done, you can cross the tracks and head for hours and hours of fun at Oaks Park Amusement Park.

If it had to be a bust not finding the wildlife or the geocache it is one nice place to do it.

Hey Todd

The real reward was spending the time with your two, wasn't it? The geocache is like the points in AR - nice to get, but probably not the reason we are here.

All was not lost it was a day of bonding with the kids, and there was a lot of special stuff found there. Our nature walks need to wait until the snow mels a bit, maybe mid May

Great post, and I like how you posted a picture of one of the historical signs talking about where you were.

The reward was spending time with the two older children that is for sure. But, I now know we will be going back during the summer to see some birds and get even better pictures.
