Snakes Alive!

I was showing a house not long ago that was the perfect house for my clients. As they walked around from room to room, they were obviously impressed, saying things like, "This is great! It's just what we've been looking for!"  They went upstairs to see the very large gameroom and gave me all of the right buying signs. I was sure we had found the right house for them. The house was large, with five bedrooms upstairs. When we finally got to the last bedroom, the door was partially closed. My client pushed it open and took a couple of steps inside. She immediately turned around and ran out.

"Get the kids out of here!" she shouted to her husband.

He and I weren't sure what was going on, so we peeked in the bedroom and were shocked to see a huge aquarium that contained the longest, fattest SNAKE I have ever seen! The thing had to be 20 feet long when it was stretched out. We both turned and followed the wife down the stairs and out the front door with kids in tow. That was the end of that! They wouldn't go back in, and said that even if the owner got the snake out, there is no telling how many more might be hiding in the walls.

Funny thing is, the house was owned by a Realtor. I couldn't believe she had put her house on the market without finding another home for that snake. When she called me for feedback, I told her the snake was the problem and that sadly, it had probably cost her the sale. She just laughed and said, "I have boys, what can I say?"

Rose - As a REALTOR she should have known the effects of something like this. What we are ok with, like her and her family with the snake, others are not. It doesn't sound like she learned her lesson either.

Rose. I think I would have run out of there too!  Maybe someone will come along and not care about the snakes..maybe?

I have to side with the owner on this.  Many people have pets they are attached to and do not have anywhere else to home them. This was her son's pet and was caged.  Not everyone has the same reactions to various animals.  Granted a huge snake like that will scare some folks, but there was likely no alternative to it being there.  Perhaps a warning sign on the bedroom door would help.

The snake would not have bothered me but I do hate big hairy spiders.

I hate snakes and it would have bothered me but maybe if it had been covered up with a sign not to touch, it would not have been a problem.  She may need to move before she will be able to sell the house.

I like snakes and don't fear them. I do respect them however, because they do bite! BUT come on!..."there is no telling how many more might be hiding in the walls"Pleeze... snakes lay eggs..this was a little over reactionary.

Now if it had been a spider...now that is a different story! Those little baby spiders run fast and hide good so I would not have been comfortable.

So I guess it is what you are most afraid of. AND the Realtor should have warned you.

No snakes allowed in homes on the market!  This is a definite turn off for buyers.  Hope that Realtor loves that snake because she might get to enjoy it in that very house for a long time.
