Do you text while you drive?  It might cost you

I couldn't help but write about this topic (admittedly not a whole lot of Real Estate content here).  Talking on the phone used to be "the" hazard when driving.  Well, now its texting while driving - my guess is that this has been pioneered by our younger friends.  See this article in the Arizona Republic.  This ordinance will go to the full City Council for a vote.  Fines up to $400.  To my friends (and some clients who text me) - I apologize in advance for delays in getting back to you!

Thanks for Reading :)

A great subject and one that should get some mixed reaction. I for one happen to agree with the ordinance. Unless and until we can do voice Text messenging, I am opposed. To many people with a cell phone stuck in their ear. Cell phone should be limited to hande free or not used (buy the driver). I use bluetooth and it works very well as I can concentrate on the roads with both hands on the wheel. Much safer.

Sounds like the fine is a little light to me.  We are so distracted when talking on the phone, I can't even imagine how much more distracted we are when texting!  Thanks for addressing this topic.

Only an idiot would text while driving. Not only might it cost you money but could cost you your life and perhaps someone else as well.

Texting while driving ranks up there with reading the news paper while driving. Only a fool would try it.

Talking is one thing but texting, no you shouldn't do that while you drive, now that is just too dangerous.

I don't like driving while talking on the phone and pull over if I have to take the call, I can't imagine taking my eyes off the road to text. Great reminder, thanks.

The cell phone and all its new "gee whiz" technology is "cool",  but it is a driving hazard only because the phone user uses it stupidly.  The texters are the same ones who read a newspaper while driving

The fine for texting should be so much more!  It is much easier (for me anyway) to hold a phone and talk than it would be to make sure I am hitting the right letters in a text message.  Crazy

I don't text when I drive, but I have added people to my address book (before I forgot) while sitting at the stop light. I'm too chicken to do it any other way.

...only a fool might do it, but there are lots of foolish teenagers out there. I used to (and admittedly still do) lecture my children about drinking and driving, and now that they are all in their 20's, texting and driving is my new lecture topic. "oh Mom......."                yeah.......well, I pay your cell phone bill and I SEE how much you text! Most of these kids wouldn't even need a cell phone if they just had a cute little gadget that just sent text messages.

I'm one of those idiots that texts while they drive....California has a new law coming into affect July of this year.  You can't talk on the phone, you can't text, you can't twitter.....I'm going to be so bored now.  Good post. My wife always complains when I text n drive so I think Arizona should adopt the same thing.
