Would you give cola to your dog?

Only fresh good water was designed to run our body and pets too.

Remember my blog on quitting colas and coffee? Well the Mayo clinic thinks water is the way to go too.

Men need 12 cups a day and women 9 cups.. sounds a lot more that the 8 cups we usually read about. Nursing women need about 13 cups. It all varies a tiny bit on climate and excercize. Few people drink too much water.

They suggest sparkling water at social gatherings. Yes, the drive home will go a lot better for you. Manhattan Hermosa and Redondo Beach police are on the alert.

It also said that we get 20% of water from food. Maybe that is the difference for the 8 cups to drink.

It reminded us to use clean bottles if we are reusing. It sounds disgusting but if I am guilty of refilling a small bottle of water from the fridge tap then maybe you are too. So I bought neat rubbermaid things that I can throw into the dishwasher.

Forgive me for the soapbox on water...I just didn't know any better. I know when I was pregnant I threw up so much I had to sip salt water over ice to get my body back together. I learned to make a great drink ice chipped lemon squeezed over it to taste water and salt. I salt the ice a little to let it bore holes inside to easily chew.

So could a cola drink or cup of coffee do all the stuff below?

 Health benefits of water

Water is your body's principal chemical component, comprising, on average, 60 percent of your weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions.

Thanks for the early morning health report. I'm going and try to drink more water. This article makes some very good points..

They will pry my last cup of coffee out of my cold dead hands.

Yes, you did violate the Mayo Clinic copyright by copying and pasting their image.  I doubt that they care, but it perpetuates the myth that, if you see something you like on the Internet, just copy and paste.

Only 20% of water comes from food?  I've read reports in the past that have said over half our daily water comes from food... very interesting!  Again, as I mentioned in your last blog about the soda verse water, don't drink too much water as there is such thing as water intoxication and it's scary!

I've been reading the 8 cups of water but I can't give up the coffee. Gave up the Diet Coke about a year ago and am feeling much better. Working hard to dump the coffee, but I can't quite do it :-)

I love a decaf-coffee in the morning but rarely drink soda.  Does lemonade count as water?  Thanks for the information and reminder!

Great post Lynne.  CAUTION!  Do not reuse bottle water bottles.  They break down leaching the chemicals used to make the bottles, into the liquid.  Also, do not heat food in the microwave if in plastic containers, same thing happens.

As for water, I don't drink the stuff.  I drink tons of de-caf Green Tea which of course is 90% water.  I've never given my dog coke, but I once tended a horse that loved the stuff!

Great post Lynne! A good friend who is a clinical nutritionist told me a long time ago the amount of water you should drink is an easy equation:

Divide your body weight in half and that is the amount of PURE water in ounces -- minimum -- you should drink per day! (not diluted in tea or lemonade!) What an easy way to remember!

If you weigh 150 lbs/2 = 75... 75 oz per day for you! A little over a half gallon!

Great post! Sorry I missed it!

Now the problem is finding water that is "healthy".  There was just a big article about arsenic contamination in the wells in NH.  It is not that easy to find water that will not make you sick.

Just another great reminder....I've slipped off the band wagon lately.....shame on me!  Thanks, Lynne!

Cheers! from DC....
