The Philosophy Of Charles M. Shulz

Charles Schulz Philosophy ImageThe following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the ‘Peanuts’ comic strip (as sent to me in a viral email). I did nothing to check the validity of the source, it just made so much sense I thought it was worth spreading the message. It starts off with a few simple questions.

You don’t have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them. Just read straight through, and you’ll get the point..

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress….
6. Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special!
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson of the Charles Schulz Philosophy

The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials.. the most money… or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most!

I considered the Charles Schulz Philosophy and here are the answers that came to me at first reading. I am sure the list would broaden with more consideration. [Continued Here]

Joe - thanks for posting. I have seen this previously, and it's a good reminder that the people who have the most impact on us weren't celebrities, just people who had a passion for what they did. We can have the same effect on people in our careers.

I suspect Shultz would have had a question about hockey or ice skating.  He owed a rink in Santa Rosa, CA where his youngest daughter skated.

Morning Joe - those are really good thoughts to begin a new day and a new commitment to our friends, family and colleagues.  It is so easy to get caught up in the excitement of the latest Super Bowl race or Stanley Cup Playoff or Election campaign.  But these do pass very quickly and despite the heat of the moment, the enduring memories and lessons learned come from far deeper inside and from individuals who simply cared about us.

That's interesting Wallace. I grew up with the "Peanuts," his comedy was clean (so rare today).

Awesome post, Joe! I suggested it for a feature.  In this business, it is so easy to get caught up in who is the most successful (blah, blah, blah) but the other stuff is the most important.  As an aside, I recently was cleaning out my attic and decided not to throw out Schulz's "Happiness is a Warm Puppy"  which was a gift from my sister.  Too many great memories.

Thanks Joe. That is such an awesome reminder that it's family, friends and business associates that really make a difference in our lives. It takes such a small minute to make someone else happy.

Blessings, Jill
