Here in Brooklyn, historic Green-Wood Cemetery offers bird watching, flash light tours inside the Catacombs on full moon nights, Holloween tours, a two hour trolley tour that features the wonderful gardens, cemetery history, great views of the Manhattan skyline and the garden preservation program.
Green-Wood Cemetery founded in 1838 is one of our first rural cemeteries. It covers 478 acres, with gardens, ponds, 19th and 20th century statuary and mausoleums. Some of its residents incl Leonard Bernstein, Boss Tweed, civil war generals, baseball legends, to the artist Jean - Michel Basquiat. Green-Wood is also a Revolutionary War historic site. Since 1860 it has been attracting visitors. On September 27,2006 Green-Wood was designated a National Historic Landmark.
