If you have ever belonged to a service organization such as Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis or any of the others you know they provide the opportunity to serve the community in many different ways.
A service club is no different than any organization in that it needs a leadership structure to perform effectively as it strives to meet its' objectives. It is very similar to a local REALTOR® association in that members are elected to serve on boards or committees and have the opportunity to move up the "chairs" to the presidency for a one year term.
It is an honor and, at the same time, a lot of effort is involved as I have learned as this year's President of the West Springfield Rotary Club.
Since we are only 40 members strong we are constantly on the alert for ways to raise funds in support of our community and international programs. Additionally, there is the need to oversee the organizational aspects of the club itself. The president conducts the weekly meetings, the monthly board meeting and attends meetings at the district level as required.
We are a Wednesday 7:30 AM breakfast club so I performed the duties of my office yesterday morning for an hour at the Springfield Golf and Country Club - Rotary meetings are one hour in length. Being president of the club requires a tremendous time commitment for 12 months, but I love every challenging minute of it.

Wherever most of you live there is a service club such as Rotary. You better be careful if you attend a meeting - you will get hooked and begin to Pay It Forward for years to come. A Rotary club is easy to find - there are 33,000 of them worldwide with 1.2 million members
