For those of you who live in California, I hope you have had the opportunity to catch Huell Howser on Public Television. Here in Southern California, he is on KCET and KOCE (Los Angeles and Orange County Public Stations).
Every evening, somewhere around six to eight pm, he has (reruns typically) of shows where he travels to unique spots in California and visits with folks, and it really does make you want to go there, no matter WHAT he is spotlighting.
Last night, he did a show on a really cool sounding restaurant in Burbank called the Tallyrand. It is a mom and pop type restaurant with a coctail lounge. It is actually quite large, not just a little hole in the wall.
The original owners started the restaurant in the sixties, I believe, and have since passed on. But their son and daughter have taken over, and it is still and always will be family owned and operated. Both siblings work the restaurant daily, and most all of the employees that Huell chatted with have been there forever.
As Huell wandered through talking with patrons, most of them have been coming there for 20 or more years, and quite a few of them come daily. They all spoke of how they are all just one big happy family.
In fact, interesting fact: both of the (now) owners met their resapective spouses IN THE RESTAURANT. That is incredible, at least I think.
So, I guess I am gonna have to check this place out. Can you say ROAD TRIP?
