You took my Place!!!

Every now and again I receive an E-Mail that I am happy to pass along.  Common courtesy is one thing that is lacking in our modern day society.  Although, this could have taken place anytime in the last 100 years...it still fits today.

A man decided to visit a local church.  He got there early and pulled into a parking place.  Another car pulls up alongside and a man get out..."Hey, you took MY parking spot...I always park there!"

The visitor went inside and found an empty seat in Sunday School.  A young lady approached him and said..."You took my place, I always sit there."  The visitor was somewhat distressed by this rude welcome but said nothing.

After Sunday School, the visitor went into the Sanctuary and sat down.  Another lady came up to him and said..."You took my place...I always sit there."  The visitor was even more distressed, but still said nothing!

Later, the congregation prayed for Christ to dwell around them, the visitor stood up, and his appearance began to change.  Horrible scars on his hands and on his sandeled feet appeared.  A member fo the congregation noticed this and said..."What Happened to YOU?"

The visitor replied as his hat became a crown of thorns and a tear ran down his cheek..." 'I' Took YOUR place."

The sad part of this is that I belonged to a congregation where a visitor was told that they could not sit there because someone else always sat there.

I hope this touches you as it has me!

It is unfortunate that people get hung up in doing what they've always done and what they perceive to be theirs instead of enjoying the company of a guest or giving them a good welcome.

Bill...

I think that there is nothing more important than making a visitor feel welcome and appreciated! Great object lesson!

This lesson isn't just about church, but it is about life. We need to look at ourselves and see what we really are.  It may surprise us.

I have actually seen "Regulars" outwardly frown and express annoyance should a "Visitor" dare to sit in their spot.  And you are so right -- this knows no boundaries.  Thanks for sharing.

It is a sad fact that folks can get so used to their routine they quit thinking of others.

Makes me glad to be part of a church congregation who has the goal of putting others first - always!  Thanks for the story, stories help make the lesson stick!

Bill, I have visited churches where I was ignored and others that I was overly welcomed.  The later is better!

William,

This really did touch me... thank you for sharing it.  We should always treat others as we would want to be treated and welcomed.  There is a great lesson to be learn from this.
