Who makes the best pizza in New Haven?

I speak with many people on this subject and I think New Haven is an area where the "pizza war" rages on!

People have very strong opinions on pizza and it is as controversial a topic as religion or politics.  Whether you like thin crust, thick crust, toppings or plain everyone has their favorite place and style.  Then there are people who think pizza is pizza.  Is this some kind of joke?  But the same people will argue to the death that McDonalds fries are better than Burger King's.

Is Dominos really the same as Sally's or Pepe's?  I think not!  How can one even suggest such a thing?

Maybe it is a local thing?  People from the Greater New Haven Area stand together in their quest for the best pie in town.

So I am going to name a few and welcome comments and additions to the list for anyone I may miss which I am sure I will.

My personal favorite is Modern.  It is a family tradition and is my Dad's fav as well.  I have many memories of pizza and birch beer there.

Pepe's for sure!  Did you know we have a Pepe's in Fairfield, Connecticut now?  I say we get together and do lunch one of these days.  Come down to the Pepe's here in Fairfield, what do you say?

I have to say that Pepe's would be my #1, great Pizza (or is it APIZZA) and many found memories of grabbing a Pie and Pitcher with a group of friends before closing.  Although I have to say that my beer compliment to a nice "Special" is White Birch Beer from Foxen ... although in my younger days white birch was reserved for a few dogs at Jimmies or Chicks on the shore in West Haven (before Jimmies went sit down).
