Teays Valley Flowers & MoreThis morning Georgeann and I went across the street to Teays Valley Flowers & More to get flowers for a coworker.  We braved the traffic of Teays Valley Road and just hoofed it.

I hadn't been there in a while I was surprised at their pretty arrangements and very reasonable prices.  We found what we were looking for (and more!) and got ready to leave.

Before we walked out the door, Georgeann told the women there that she always uses them for flowers, ever since her grandson in the service asked her to get flowers for his wife while I was in Iraq.  She came in to order roses, and when she said her grandson in Iraq wanted them delivered to his wife, they refused to accept payment.

Really?  I had to ask, they really do that?  Yes, she said it's the least they can do.  While those guys are over in Iraq, their wives and families are missing them.  It wouldn't be right to charge them when they put their lives on the line every day.

Wow.  I know I've told you how nice people are around here, but that still surprised me.  I loved that.  I had to ask if I could blog about that.  She laughed and said OK.  (Didn't ask what a blog was, we're coming along people!)  I asked if it was OK to say online that she won't charge our local guys in Iraq to send flowers home.  She said yes, go ahead.

So here I am, still surprised at how nice people can be.  They absolutely refused payment from Georgeann, and she returns the favor by always using them for flowers.  They just became my go-to place, too.  If you like that, maybe they need to be your florists, too.

I just received a hearty thank you from my client in Iraq who will be home in just two weeks. What we all do for our soldiers revives our spirit when we hear stories such as this. Thanks Sarah!

Sarah,

More people should show appreciation, but they don't, if it weren't for those guy's fighting for us, there would be no Flower Shops.. Very Nice Post, and eye opening..

Wow Sarah Girl, that is amazing, actually not really. Although people with this type of generousity appear to be few and far between these days, I know they still exist and this proves it. Thank you for sharing that with us and...

Way to go Teays Valley Flowers & More...You guys rock!

What a nice and selfless thing for your local florist to do. I know that things are tough right now for many and I assume that it has had an impact of the floral business too. Give and you shall receive.

Sally - You're right, when we take care of our soldiers I think it does us all good.  I know I felt good just knowing that florist would be so kind, and I didn't have a thing to do with it!

Tom - You have such a point.  I think a few more thank yous are in order.

Jason - If this weren't a public post, I might tell you something.  But I won't.

Jen Girl - I was so happy to hear this, it just made me smile.  I had to pass it on and share my Magic Google Juice with the nice people.  I'll have to see what happens if I Google "Hurricane WV Florist".

Donna - I thought it was just fabulous, and needed to be rewarded.  I don't think they even have a website, so I'll share my goods with them.  I hope I just got them a lot of business!

Suzanne - I loved hearing it, too!

What a great idea!  Thanks for sharing, I am thinking that is one of the best ideas I have ever heard (well, for a florist).

Sarah,

Thank you for sharing this experience with us.   It touches my heart to see the goodness in people, and that everything in the world is not so cynical.   I wish I knew people like this florist when my nephew was in Iraq.  No matter what your view of the war is, we must support the brave men & women who are fighting over there.

That is so nice!  A while back I was having dinner at a really nice restaurant and an officer and his wife were dining.  I tried to pick up the tab but every person in that restaurant had paid a portion of the bill, dinner, appetizers, drinks, I got desert and after dinner drinks.  The waiter even threw the tip in.

There are more nice people out there than you know.   They just never make the news cause they didn't kill anyone or crash into anything.

Teay Valley sounds like some great people!!!

Harold - I feel very much the same.  Imagine how nice it was for Georgeann when she tried to send flowers and they wouldn't allow her to pay for them.  She's a fan for life now!

Dez- Alright, I accept your haha's, I know it is deserved.  Like the button?  :oD!!  Sometimes I just like to get Jason all riled up.

Thesa - Well, I can't buy flowers every day ... !  But I'll stop by more than I would have otherwise.  And you can bet I'll keep talking nice about them.  (I'm a good friend to have.)

Chris - That happens to my brother when he's in his Trooper uniform sometimes.  A lot of places won't charge him for food anyway.  Nice of you to pitch in!  I hope he gets that treatment everywhere he goes.

Bob - Our news does a pretty decent job of showcasing nice people.  It's weird, when people first move here they laugh about how slow the news is, then they visit where they used to live and complain about all the crime on the news.  :o)  We have a lot of great people around here.   WV is AWESOME.

Sarah, This post brought tears to my eyes. We had a married agent team working at our beachside office that recently moved to GA to be with their daughter while her husband went to Iraq for his 3rd tour. We got the news on Monday, he lost his life on Friday the 14th. He leaves behind a young wife and 6 yr old daughter. Please give the owner of this flower shop a huge hug from me and a big thank you.

I know how you feel about Subscribe buttons.  The fact that you put one there for someone else just keeps on confirming what I already know about you.

Sarah,

What a great gesture of support Teays Valley Flowers and More is giving to troops from your corner of WV.  I hope their support translates into business from those who appreciate what they are doing.
