Being organized is so important, not just for your business to run smoothly, but in your client's work, plus the relaxation and full enjoyment of your own home. So it behooves all of us to work at making our spaces more organized and more efficient. Here are some brief tips to help in that regard.

  • Get rid of your need to accumulate - Some people are pack rats. They keep everything - even trash. Make a commitment to throw all trash in the bin immediately, while it is still in your hand. Resist the temptation to put it on the counter, table, desk or chair. Get rid of it immediately. Before you put something away or on a shelf, ask yourself: Do I really, really need to keep this? Always run things through your mind's filter more than once.
  • Tighten up your resistance to chaos - Some people tolerate messiness much better than others. Learn to tolerate mess less. Demand more of yourself and those you live and work with. Extremely organized people have a place for everything and everything is always in its place. Learn to acquire this skill. You'll be amazed at how much better your surroundings look and feel.
  • Set your goals and make priorities - It's so easy to say to yourself, "I'll do it tomorrow." The problem is that tomorrow never comes and things never get done. The more you slack off, the worse things get. The worse things get, the less you want to tackle them. Look around and find the worst task you need to do that you should have done long ago. Stop what you're doing and go take care of the task. You will feel such a feeling of empowerment, you'll be highly motivated the rest of the day and have such a feeling of accomplishment afterwards. Don't delay. Do it right now and get it over with. Every day you should have a short list of tasks to accomplish that day. Do the least appealing ones first and get them out of the way. The rest of the day will then feel like a breeze.
  • Conquer your fears - Most people suffer from fears of one kind or another. Common fears have to do with the fear of success or fear of failure. Fear will stop you dead in your tracks. Fear immobilizes you. But guess what? Perfect love casts out fear. You're fearful because you are focused on yourself. If you change your focus to that of helping other people, your fears will leave you. You'll be operating in peace and freedom and great things will be accomplished as a result.
  • Buy organizational tools and systems - Look around your desk or where you spend much of your time. Do you have the proper furniture to help you organize all of your paperwork, supplies, books, binders?Ā  If you see a ton of papers strewn everywhere or piles of stuff everywhere, you need to get this stuff out of sight or out - period. File cabinets, armoires, chests of drawers, credenzas - these are all great furnishings to help you keep yourself better organized. Small boxes, baskets, desk chests, binders, file folders and book ends will help you control all the supplies and incidentals and make it easy to find what you need quickly.
